123. When you rent your possessions are your home...
The house that a home is in is in most cases only a mere support structure for a
painstakingly arranged atmosphere of decor and a nano-economy of utilitarian objects
supporting deeply ingrained daily routines.

Now, many renters stay in the same place for decades. However, when you have
rented/moved all your life, these possessions are even more well engineered,
since you have taken them apart and put them back together many times to fit
new room layouts. They become a part of you as surely as people become attached
to their childhood houses.

And that is what they sold. If someone came into a house-owners house and removed
everything but the doors, walls, and the plumbing fixtures, believe me, they
would feel like their "home" had been stolen.

Canceling the lease was just rubbing salt in the wound at that point.
