Obama has wisely stayed away from the mayor, and the mayor, to his credit, has let him stay away. He must know that would be the last straw with his dwindling number allies in the party, to try to drag Obama into this mess.

And I always protested when people talked about the mayor's wasted potential and said he could've been like Obama. They are nothing alike. Obama is a thoughtful man committed to social justice, first black president of the Harvard Law review. Kwame Kilpatrick is a spolied brat dumb jock man-child who has probably gotten away with doing whatever the hell he wanted without any regard for others his entire life. They are nothing alike outside of the fact that they both have political ambition and are African-American.
