373. I take your point, but I disagree.
I think that we need fewer guns among the general public, not more of them, and my first thought when they were speculating about what kind of gun was used in this terrible tragedy was whether this could have been avoided if the Assault Weapons Ban had been renewed. :-(

And having this rule in place hasn't done VA Tech much good, since this is the second shooting that they have had there this year. If it had been enforced, this troubled young man wouldn't have been able to have perpetrated the violence that he did on innocent strangers. And I am speaking as someone who used to shoot competitively and was a former member of the NRA. Allowing students, whether they are trained combat vets, or not, to carry weapons is just a recipe for disaster. :scared:

My heart also goes out to the students in the Engineering Wing who showed a lot of courage in a horrific situation. If there are any heroes in this terrible thing, it's them, and I can't even imagine what a nightmare they faced or will continue to have about this terrible day. ;(
