Nowak describes her relationship with Oefelein as "more" than professional but "less" than romantic? A very interesting choice of words, especially since they beg the question of why you would feel the need to dispose of an alleged romantic rival over someone that you don't have romantic feelings about.

I strongly suspect that Nowak WANTED a more romantic relationship, but the feeling wasn't mutual. Either Oefelein rejected her outright, she blew her stack when she realized (or mistakenly concluded) that he was interested in someone else, or she escalated their working relationship into something bigger--and totally imaginary.
