9. One of the first released British prisoners complained about that
But it has been put off as "anti-american propaganda".

"It is true Mr. al-Harith claims to have been beaten — once (not daily, as with the Taliban) — while imprisoned. But all the rest of his torture claims are secondor third-hand. Unnecessary amputations were a common punishment, he insists, though he saw none. Some inmates were fed foul water and 10-year-old rations, many were malnourished, though he describes himself as “fit and healthy” while at the camp.

According to the Mirror, the “most shocking disclosure” is Mr. al-Harith’s insistence that devout Muslim men, who had never before seen an unveiled woman, were tortured by being forced to watch disrobed prostitutes parade before them and “touch their own naked bodies.” He, of course, never suffered this treatment, but claims he “knew” of it happening “about 10 times.” One victim, he says, had a prostitute’s menstrual blood smeared on his face to humiliate him.

It is a mark of just how riddled with anti-American conspiracy theorists much of the Western world’s press has become when such fanciful claims are swallowed without hesitation, then regurgitated without analysis as though they are gospel. It is also an indication of how much work the U.S. administration has to do to keep its side of the story in the war on terror from being buried in an avalanche of misinformation."
