30. Occasionally you'll hear people say "I am a follower of Jesus" instead of
"I am a Christian," to distinguish themselves from the organized churches that have hurt so many people. Some people suggest that if you actually read the Gospels, the Jesus you read about is radically different than what (especially) evangelical churches teach. Jesus talks about tolerance (the parable of the Good Samaritan); he talks about helping the poor, the vulnerable, the suffering; he blesses the peacemakers. He doesn't talk about what you believe or what church you belong to.
