Okay, so they could have fed the homeless. They could have saved the whales. They could have saved the trees. Have you taken into account that maybe they are paying the power bills of many people who are teetering on the edge and are living paycheck to paycheck? Hm.
Sometimes it's statements like yours that makes liberals look like nothing but complainers and whiners, which doesn't help out cause. Doing something good isn't good enough for some people obviously.
