(22,239 posts)People have even mentioned to me that I "flinch" a little or tense up when people touch me. Weird, right? Not so much if I bump into someone on a busy street or in a crowd, but when someone reaches out to touch me or hug me.
I am a very caring person with enormous empathy for others, but I have this issue with people getting into my bubble.
To be honest, 90 percent of the times I can remember being touched unexpectedly, it's been initiated by a woman (I'm a guy). It'll be a touch on the shoulder or grasp of the hands or forearm, or a hug or a pat on the cheek or back, once or twice a unexpected peck on the cheek, or pulling my hand to their heart (eek! Breasts! Panic!)
And most of the time, at the time, it's very uncomfortable for me for a moment or two.
You know what, though. That's MY PROBLEM. Not once did anyone mean anything more than platonic human contact.
Doesn't mean in that instant, I wasn't very uncomfortable, but then I kinda shrug it off, take things in the context in which they happened and go on with life.
I guess what I am trying to say is that this isn't just male-on-female thing and maybe they did feel uncomfortable because it was more intimate than they would like, but I have learned in my little over a half century of life that some people are just a little bit more touchy-feeling and tactile in their expressions of emotions and my discomfort is not their fault.
It is something about ME.
