No CGI to take away from the story, Erroll Flynn, Erroll Flynn doing most of his own stunts, Great script, great directing, great wardrobe and I'm no fan of English history, but the story revolves around Henry's rule while his brother, King Richard the Lion Hearted was away for a Crusade and his subsequent capture and being held for ransom.
Now, Richard was gay and it's conjectured his absence from the throne because he was out fighting wars for nearly all of his reign was to get away from the intrigue and gossip of the castle, or so I've read (not the gay part because of so many different accounts of this, but of why he was absent so much).
A great way to understand all of the brotherly infighting with the support of their mother, the queen, is to watch The Lion in Winter.
Katherine Hepburn is the queen and Peter O'Toole is King Henry and is another great movie.
