13. I had open heart surgery at about your age.

Triple bypass, a MAZE procedure to correct afib, and a couple of clots removed. My heart was stopped for about 8 hours. I can't say it was a whole lot of fun, and recovery took a bit, but 15 years later the doctors still say that if I didn't have that scar down my chest they wouldn't believe there had every been anything wrong with my heart.

No one will say that surgery is fun, but they have come so far in the last generation it is a miracle. And remember, anesthesiology is a medical specialty - one guy who does nothing other than to make sure that everything is going correctly with the gas passing.
