power, and from what I read yesterday, now over 100,000 homeless as they lost everything.

Standing on the beach in Sea Gate, Coney Island tonight, watching the sun setting over the ocean, as homes stood in ruins behind me. It was an oddly beautiful scene amongst so much destruction.

Those photos on the blog are devastating. I've stood on that beach also and it's heart-breaking to see the destruction there, on Coney Island, the Jersey Shore, Far Rockaway, Red Hook and all over such a huge area.

People whose homes survived with some damage, but are without power are in danger, especially older people, of freezing and starving. I am so glad so many have come out to help OWS and the Community Organizers as it is literally going to be impossible to reach all the victims with the just the normal efforts.

I spoke to a friend yesterday on LI who had their power turned on on Tuesday only to lose it again on Wednesday. They have it back today but there are downed lines on their street and for a week their street was blocked by a fallen tree, and they are in one of the least affected areas, the North Shore of LI. Well, 'least' by comparison.
