In reply to the discussion: What would be the most effective ad against Romney? [View all]shanen
(349 posts)The power of that kind of dog-narrated cartoon ad is that it gives you an alternative way to display thoughts. Unfortunately, it's hard for the dog to address deep issues and I think that Romney has already lost the dog-lovers vote. Then again, when you think of all of the groups who should be voting against Romney, how in gawd's name can this be a close election?
However, that just got me to thinking about Romney's little pitch to the NAACP. He says the blacks would want to vote for him if they only knew what was in his heart. Really? Why don't you say what is in your heart.
I'm imagining an ad where Romney is saying that line, and then a thought balloon appears over his head showing what really is in his heart, and then a somewhat Romney-like voice reading the thought balloon (for emphasis, for people who are not looking at the screen, and to create the final negative image). It has to be something short, and it also depends on whether or not Romney actually believed what he was saying--though I think he is usually lying and knows that he is lying. Here are some possible thought balloons for possible response ads on the NAACP speech, starting with ones that are based on rationalizations that he cannot share with the audience. Remember that the first part shows Romney saying they might vote for him if they only knew his heart, and then the thought balloon:
(1) "I'm really the only guy who can keep my racist supporters from lynching you."
(2) "I can throw you a couple of bones and my supporters will still hate the Democrats."
(3) "Obama is just making the neo-GOP more and more angry."
(4) "Obama is an ineffective loser and can't make the money trickle down." (Okay, that one is a bigger stretch, even for Romney.)
(5) "Maybe I can sell you lottery tickets and you'll hope to win a million bucks if I win?"
(6) "I can make a few of you rich and display you like lottery winners."
(7) ...
(The more I see Romney, the more he sickens me and the more it astounds me that this can possibly be a close election. Romney should be 30% behind by now. I guess I sort of understand how some of the Obama haters feel--but I still can't understand the why.)
