I know people are going to roll their eyes at me, but it's very similar to something seen in the 80s from Ronald Reagan. That type of campaigning is effective. Americans like optimism and hope. Romney might be the challenger, but instead of doing what Obama did in '08, you know, running on hope & change, Romney is running on pessimism and reactionary ideas. It won't work, IMO, because Americans don't like that. When you're negative, when you're constantly talking doom & gloom, it turns voters off. Obama didn't run on doom & gloom in '08 and instead, focused on a better tomorrow. Romney is caught up in this idea that he needs to sour the American public on their lives, make them think things are the absolute worst and I don't think Americans like that.

Negative campaigning, not in the, 'my opponent sucks' sense, but in the 'America sucks' sense never works. It hasn't worked, at least not recently. Reagan was the master at making average Americans feel good. Hopefully this is an ad that does the same. Clinton did it too. He was very effective at it. Romney? Not so much. Obama did it in '08, but it's more difficult doing it as the incumbent. More ads like this, though, will help immensely.
