There is no "freedom" without responsibility for others. Your analogy is deeply flawed. The state of Texas is not being "repressed" by the federal government; the people of that state benefit from it. Try living without air traffic control, NASA, the federal highway system, the national weather service, the FDA, CDC, USDA, education, housing assistance, medicare, medicaid, social security, ag assistance, WIC, and the U.S. Armed Forces.

Good luck getting along without those. Look at this and LEARN something:
