These so-called Tea Partiers "looked" like a mix of voters, but they were really only rethugs (and the most far right, racist bible thumping members of that party) in disguise. Some of those candidates that won - Snyder among them - played a good game of bait and switch with the voters, and each of those successful Rethug-Tea Party candidates appeared to be moderates.
What happened in WI and MI, with Kasech's driveby attempt in OH blindsided most voters. But the sad fact remains is that a huge percentage of the population of the U.S. doesn't understand that labor unions have been fighting and bargaining to better the average working man's or woman's life. Most folks don't understand or appreciate that the only reason they have 40-hour work weeks (assuming they do), vacations and other employee benefits is because workers in unions have been bargaining for those conditions and rights for over five decades. But people who are struggling financially always want to blame some external source as a reason for their own private woes, and unions have been kicked around for years as the go-to scapegoat. The dumber the voters, the more this resonates.
