Whose 56, and an educator who has 1st/2nd cousins/Aunts/Uncles who live in Ohio, and she tells me that most are all racist GOP deplorables, close-minded, brainwashed Alex Jones/Faux Noose Watcher types and that they really hate anyone whose non-white, and that even the younger cousins in their 20's and 30's think that Pres. Obama is a Muslim/terrorist/gay, Michelle is a male and that Blacks/Hispanics ALL are on welfare & having child after child One set of these cousins parents now deceased were Red's season ticket holders for many ears and that were very friendly with Marge Schott/husband and used to have dinner with them. I joked with her and said oh, they're KKK Yoohoos? She told me that most are educated, have good jobs, live in very nice houses with their wives/children, and that the men and some of the women cousins are hunters who own MANY rifles/fire arms, and that they wouldn't be caught dead sitting on their front porch in Lazy Boy with a jug of something and whittling. She said her first family reunion in 25 years last Summer was her last, and that she won't be seeing them again because the racism/ignorance is too toxic and depressing for her. Racism is everywhere, but to avoid the toxicity of it in one's family--it's a must.

By the way, she's in an interracial marriage (African-American husband/no kids together but a 10 year old daughter from his marriage. He was widowed several years ago. I asked her if they asked about her husband She said yes, but she gave few details about him--only that he's a Mathematics Professor at a nearby Jr. College. Her daughter is an energetic and precious 10 yr old and hubby's as nice as can be), and she didn't even chance taking HIM to the family reunion. I told her, if she couldn't take her husband/daughter, why bother going? She said exactly. She said she has a few relatives there who aren't racist, but told her that they have to go along to get along. Sad, but she says if as adults they can't stand up for what's right then she doesn't want to be with them either. She said maybe one day she'll confront the whole lot about their racism, but now was not the time for it.

She's so thankful to her late parents for not being racist/prejudiced and for moving her and her younger brothers to So. California in the early 1970's. I feel her. Living in an extremely diverse place like we do here in So. Cal, makes one's life richer and much more enjoyable.
