But in that case, there was no sanction taken against Hillary's campaign, whereas in this instance, they immediately cut off their access to the database, which was in violation of their contract This was one of the reasons the campaign was complaining about unfair treatment -- that and the fact that it was the DNC's contractural reponsibility to keep the data secure, and the there had been warnings from IT professionals in the past about relying exclusively on one company.
According NP VAN, the searches were not--and could not have been--saved in such a way that allowed the campaign to access the searches once the breach was fixed. The only thing that was capable of being exported for future use was the statistical summary mentioned above. This does lend some credence to the fired staff persons statement that he was doing search to document the extent of the breach rather than to use it for the advantage of the campaign.
