It’s hardly the most gut-bustingly funny routine a candidate ever came up with. But President Obama’s claim that his opponent suffers from “Romnesia” appears to be going viral Friday.

The odd term — a portmanteau of “Romney ” and “amnesia” — was at the top of Twitter’s trending topics in the U.S. for several hours after Obama used it in a stump speech in Virginia — an unusual feat for a political topic.

At its peak at 1pm EST, Romnesia was mentioned in more than 18,000 tweets per hour.

Stealing a page from the Jeff Foxworthy playbook, Obama made several jokes along the lines of “you might have Romnesia if …”
