51. I agree with everything in this post except Romney

being their best candidate for this year. I think the GOP would've been better off nominating either Jon Huntsman or Ron Paul. RP was a wingnut, but at least he had a passionate following (unlike Romney supporters, who mainly support him due to Obama Derangement Syndrome). And Huntsman actually took science seriously and believed in global warming, unlike his Republican rivals. Another reason why I think those two would've been in better shape than Romney is because they had some sort of cross-over appeal. They both had populist, non-hawkish stances at least with regards to the Afghan War, and it seems to me that many liberals had a favorable opinion of RP's drug policy.
