"Mount Fuji has been resting for 300 years now, and this is abnormal. It usually erupts in some form every 30 years."

The historical record of eruptions would disagree. Since 781, there have been 15 confirmed and possibly 18 eruptions of the volcano, but the vast majority (13) occurred between 800 and 1083. There was a 400+ year dormant period from 1083 until 1511, and only 3 or 4 eruptions since then (1511 (suspected eruption), 1560, 1700 and 1707) . So Mt. Fuji shows a very inconsistent pattern of eruptions.
