Most people committing the murders will still have the guns, just that the trafficking routes will look more like Europe's. There, guns and drugs take the same routes in the same direction. See Jamaica, USVI (where you have US federal law plus strict licensing and registration scheme), Mexico, Brazil.
On the other hand,
Only 1/3 of Canadian murders are with guns.
Russia has a higher murder rate than the US, mostly with knives etc.
