That analogy you made was between a drunk driver who hasn't yet been in an accident and any gun owner. This analogy is ridiculous on its face. In trying to malign gun owners, you end up defending drunk drivers. Don't you get it? The irony is delicious.

PS: I don't think you really understand what an abstraction is.

Clearly, we need to ban something. Callisto32 May 2012 #1
Suicide in the tub thelordofhell May 2012 #2
Unlikely, Japan has never really had much of a suicide taboo. TheWraith May 2012 #10
IMO a relatively useless, ironically humorous statistic that serves to give a broader perspective slackmaster May 2012 #3
guns kill far fewer Japanese than they do Americans CreekDog May 2012 #4
Just like Americans, they downplay the real killers hack89 May 2012 #8
you're saying bathtub slippages are murders? CreekDog May 2012 #22
Are you always this obtuse? hack89 May 2012 #25
would you advocate safer bathtubs? CreekDog May 2012 #30
I would advocate society concentrating on the real threats to life. nt hack89 May 2012 #82
You must be kidding - Bathtubs? Starboard Tack May 2012 #149
So the actual death toll is irrelevant? At least you are honest. nt hack89 May 2012 #156
another ridiculous straw man...... bowens43 May 2012 #5
Damn - I didn't realize how humor impaired this forum has become. nt hack89 May 2012 #7
Yeah, because the OP was just so hilarious! DanTex May 2012 #23
Not all of us don a hair shirt every day. nt hack89 May 2012 #26
Was that supposed to be funny also? DanTex May 2012 #27
Do you understand what a hair shirt is and why they were worn? nt hack89 May 2012 #29
Maybe an example would help you out. DanTex May 2012 #43
You do wear one! nt hack89 May 2012 #83
Well here's a pot calling the kettle black. Clames May 2012 #101

So do you pick up the tub to kill someone else with it or use furniture polish... nt Pholus May 2012 #9
Just like Americans, they downplay the real killers in their society hack89 May 2012 #11
I control my time in a bathtub. I have to trust YOU with your gun. Prove you're trustworthy... Pholus May 2012 #12
I have to trust you with your car - prove you're trustworthy... hack89 May 2012 #13
My car is registered. Passing cops can automatically run my tag with a scanner. Pholus May 2012 #14
But none of those are required if you don't drive on public streets. hack89 May 2012 #15
Add gun liability insurance and I might relax. Pholus May 2012 #16
Why? Does car insurance make the roads safer? nt hack89 May 2012 #18
Yes it does as it provides economic incentives to keep driving safer. Pholus May 2012 #20
So perhaps in the case of gun violence, we need to make criminals carry insurance? hack89 May 2012 #24
Naw, auto insurance simply absorbs the cost of nonpayers with higher rates. Pholus May 2012 #34
Most people who own guns DO carry liability insurance, and anyone who rents or owns a home SHOULD slackmaster May 2012 #51
If it covers accidents away from your home as well then you have all I ask. Pholus May 2012 #63
Yes, as do most homeowner's and renter's policies slackmaster May 2012 #69

Dodge, eh? Back to the issue: Are you arguing that a car CANNOT be used as a weapon? Marengo May 2012 #127
No. Chevy! So why don't you defend your house with your car? Pholus May 2012 #128

By the way, didn't you say you were done with this conversation? Marengo May 2012 #161

No problem. Sadly, you're doing the same thing. Pholus May 2012 #165
Uh, In post 14, did you state that registration would prevent you... Marengo May 2012 #171
Not knowing... discntnt_irny_srcsm May 2012 #173
A very good discussion! Pholus May 2012 #175
Yes, you are done, as your claim of "trustworthiness" through registration... Marengo May 2012 #145
Oh, a bit of friendly advice: Pretending not to understand a clear point... Marengo May 2012 #129
When it comes to clarity, I'm not the guy confusing Japanese bathtubs with firearms. nt Pholus May 2012 #130
Uh Huh... Marengo May 2012 #132
Sure. I'm not the guy who thinks I can rub someone out with a volvo at will. nt Pholus May 2012 #134

No, but unlike you I understand which is more likely. nt Pholus May 2012 #136

So in your opinion, treat cars and guns the same, only different shadowrider May 2012 #47
Hey, it was your BIG idea DonP May 2012 #48
Just like "tubs and guns" I guess. Some analogies are OBVIOUSLY more equal than others. Pholus May 2012 #49
I don't expect much from the control side of the discussion and I'm seldom disappointed DonP May 2012 #53
Well said. I think that a good percentage of restriction supporters know their cause is lost. Simo 1939_1940 May 2012 #59

Ill informed, bitter and a bad haircut is no way to go through life DonP May 2012 #67

Just like a car, none of that applies to my gun in my house and not carried in public hack89 May 2012 #154
I prove it every day. jeepnstein May 2012 #137
I don't have to prove that I am trustworthy. You have to prove that I am not. oneshooter May 2012 #155
Every two years guns kill as many Americans as died in Vietnam. DanTex May 2012 #17
How many MONTHS does it take for alcohol or tobacco to kill that many? hack89 May 2012 #19
Yeah, Vietnam was blown way out of proportion... DanTex May 2012 #21
Yet I see no proposed laws to ban the use of alcohol and tobacco hack89 May 2012 #28
there are lots of laws about alcohol and tobacco CreekDog May 2012 #32

Your analysis was "you must be joking". Did I get that right? DanTex May 2012 #107
Yes, Dan, you did. Straw Man May 2012 #111
