19. "Universal" bg tests are and have been supported in this group for years...

The problems center on:

1. Funding and effective operation; many people who fail current NICS tests are never investigated, or the paperwork (convictions, mental comp. findings) are not forwarded.

2. Commerce Clause issues: Can the feds require ALL citizens in EVERY state to follow a fed standard, esp. With private intrastate sales? If the controllers at the fed level thought there was no issue, they would have passed a universal NICS in a NY second. Amy suggestions?

3. Aggressive prohibitionist efforts to get at NICS data base end convert to a national registry. This is where a state FOID may be a better approach.

As you can see from at least one poster here, you and this worthy issue may be Scarlet Lettered with "NRA apologist, or "NRA talking point."
