Almost sixty years later, the question as to whether the Palestinians fled voluntarily or were expelled has crucial contemporary relevance to solving the conflict. Israelis argue that if the Palestinians left voluntarily, they have no right to return. But Palestinians claim that they were indeed forced out and do have the right to go home.
