1. Actually he describes himself as a locavore, but thinks that should mean working against the

continual supply of crappy food from a distance just because oil is cheap. But he thinks that shouldn't stop people from taking advantage about learning of other cultures and community through food. But that sounds too positive, and he does sound as self-righteous in his own way as the people he disses.
