The revolutionaries had planned to hold a show-trial for Ceausescu. But then rumors spread that some secret-agents (the "Securitate", a bunch of murderers and torturers) loyal to him were on the loose and would try to free him, so they hush-hushed him into a back-alley and had him executed on the spot.
