Desert dwelling peoples often have evolved digestive tracts as much as 9 meters longer the what we consider normal. Mostly the small intestine.
A Big Mac, a milkshake, and a case of beer a day creates big health problems for them. Especially obesity. If you can trace your ancestry back far enough, you may find the fuel you are custom built for. I have been lacto vegetarian for 45 years and never had problems.
If you must get old, listen to wive's tales. I was slammed by arthritis and found not eating fried foods solved the problem entirely!
