I found that, contrary to what I had been told, Parisians prefer you speak to them in English than to have to endure one;s broken French.

Reminds me of an anecdote from an earlier trip I took with my mother around 2000 or so.

My mom's feet were starting to swell from all the walking, and we stopped by a pharmacy by L'Ópera.

"Avez vous une pillule par l'eau?" I asked the attendant.

To which she looked at me like a meerkat, cocked her head a little and said, "Une wahterrr pill?"

Vive la difference!
