(2,050 posts)I'd shut off the turbine in a heartbeat, another idiot thing I see in gas stations is people sticking the nozzle in the tank, then they get back in the car.....
The most dangerous substance most of these brain donors ever come into contact with and they act like it's no different than water.

You see in large throughput gas stations sometimes the relief valves are set too high, this is a problem when you get someone who's doing the old " topping off the tank" trigger dance, that can actually make another nozzle pop out of a tank and spray fuel all over if it's not being monitored.
All sorts of bad things can ensue, just because someone's too lazy to stand next to the car while fling their tank.
And yes I have seen it happen, I built gas stations from the ground up for five years.
Want to hear something scary?
We would be switching out old dispensers for new ones, we'd put the new ones on their pallets off to the side in the station, nowhere near where they are supposed to be when installed.
And every time we'd get at least 5-6 people a day, usually older folks, who would drive up to them and put the nozzle in their tank, soon they would walk up to us or the attendant and ask why the pump didn't work?, well, it's because they aren't attached to a fuel tank, or even anywhere within fifty feet of the station itself.
Think about that for a minute.....
