It's a 4-year-old neutered male beagle/basset hound mix, about 35 pounds. For now, he's spending most of its time in a wire kennel in our living room. One of the cats has introduced itself to him, without any hissing or barking. The other cat has not made an appearance. The friendly cat went into my wife's office, so we closed the door and let the dog explore the rest of the house off leash. The other cat knows many hiding places, and was not seen so far. The dog's name is now officially Dude.
Once he has seen the cats a few more times without incident, he will get the run of the house. In the meantime, he's in and out of the kennel on a leash He's house trained, not too excitable, and seems willing to deal with our two cats without chasing or other obnoxious behavior.
He's been walked three times outdoors, and has peed and pooped.
It's all looking good, so far. Tomorrow, he gets introduced to some individual obedience training, but he seems to already know some basics. He was a stray when he came to the shelter.
Ask me anything.
