I don't think I necessarily agree that the results are as you think.

Now, you and I turn the ads. Why is that? Number 1...we KNOW what's coming and #2 we're already sucked in so we're likely already doing some small part to help animals. I am a member of several animal welfare and wildlife protection organizations.

The purpose of the ad I think is for those people who aren't aware of the fact. The emotional aspect is to shock these people into being as sad as we are and possibly opening up their wallets to donate.
