(14,400 posts)was Henry VIII's chief minister from 1532 to 1540. Well the entire sequence of events isn't certain anymore, he was a pretty strong advocate for the religious reformists and was the chief accuser of Anne Boleyn. He was the brother to Oliver Cromwell's Great Great Grandmother, Katherine Cromwell.
What isn't known is why he was so insistent that Boelyn die. Some suggest that she and her family were too powerful and conniving and as such had to be brought down. Others think that much of his accusation was due to Cromwells desire to take the money from monastic dissolution for himself and other nobles instead of delivering the major share into charity. Others yet think that he did it just because Henry VIII wanted to get together with Jane Seymour and dissolving a second marriage would make the king look bad.
