11. I once found a dog that was skin and bones like that, and covered with fleas.

Best I can figure he ran away when his family lost their home and had to move to a place where they couldn't keep him, maybe out of state, maybe even Mexico. They never came looking for him at the shelter, etc..

He found a good home with my wife's sister's family and still thinks I'm the best person in the world because I gave him food and water and took him in when he was lost.

We have another dog who belonged to a relative who was homeless. She was living with him in his car. Our relative finally found a place to live but they didn't allow dogs. We took his dog "temporarily" but that was years ago and now she's part of our pack. Housing is incredibly expensive here in California and many affordable places don't allow pets.

There's a lot of reason dogs get lost or abandoned.

Frequently it's the result of some traumatic event in people's lives.

All our dogs are, and have always been, rescue dogs of some sort and I grew up with similar dogs.
