(17,188 posts)28. What is called and sold as Black Licorice in the United States is not what in Europe we call Lakritz
What Americans have come to know as Black Licorice is a fraud. In my parents culture of Denmark and Germany, what I have grown up with and have, is real anis taste and the saltier the better. It's national treasures for the Danes. My favorite is the gourmet black licorice that is mixed with chocolate and other flavors, including spicy flavors.

I like black licorice because I like Sambuca and or Anisette .. and much better.
