And I assure you that the undercurrent of anger started long ago, best estimate I would give would be the 1980s. People have been getting angrier and angrier since then. Most did not know why in particular, but they were most definitely getting worse.

My theory is the “benefit” of Ronald Reagan’s trickle down economics that screwed over working folks doing so at a very slow pace which many did not really notice. They knew they were not doing as well, but couldn’t figure out who to blame, as the republicans were and are very good at divide and conquer.
