And construction workers wear dust masks through much of their day especially painters wearing respirators as they work. What is the big deal about wearing a bit of a mask to save lives of those who have health problems?

The thing is that herd immunity is not a thing until you have a vaccine. Once everybody, just about, is immune because they got the vaccine, that those who cannot take the vaccine for medical reasons are protected by the herd.

We are protecting the herd now by wearing masks. It’s all we have until there is a vaccine.
