1. He was against Trump during the campaign.

He called out Trump lies and bizarre behavior during the campaign. He was very outspoken. They stopped having Trump on the show at some point, but I don't remember if it was Trump's or Joe's decision.

He changed his tune after the election, seems to me. Giving Trump more deference, since he was now President. But that didn't last, when Trump's behavior became more bizarre and the lies bigger.

I think a lot of people thought Trump would become Presidential, and assumed that the campaign behavior was an act. Surprise!
