39. Two ironies: neither truly American, nor a majority
Sat Sep 20, 2014, 02:12 PM
Sep 2014

The first irony is that what American Majority stands for is fundamentally anti-American in that it subverts the first requirement of democracy: an informed citizenry. Not a propagandized citizenry, not a bought and paid for citizenry, but a thoughtfully engaged citizenry.

The second irony is, these guys in the American Majority are in the minority. Polls show most Americans are actually liberal.

Certainly a majority of Americans would deplore these tactics, and would support fair and honest debate over this kind of intellectual dishonesty which seeks to gain influence through trickery and cheating the system. These are people who know their message can't stand on its merits, so they morally degrade themselves to seek power through duplicity.

One is tempted to respond in kind, but we don't have this mentality and shouldn't learn it. We should however compete through greater cooperation and relentlessly promoting truth. In the long run, truth will win out. Well, usually.
