As a way to cover their asses with his followers. But that they will now not lift too many fingers to help him regain his former status. They have to at least pretend to be friendly with him. And are hoping, secretly, that his court cases, or just a weariness for his shctick will turn off enough R voters to finally distance themselves from him.
