3. Notice it is a conservative estimate

Other than the direct medical costs, I wonder what goes into the calculations. Here are things I can think of:

Costs of premature death - survivors benefits to spouses and children. Lost tax revenue from the deceased.

Costs of disability - SSI and SSDI to the permanently disabled as well as to their caregivers in some cases. Cost of medical care via Medicare. Lost tax revenue from those who cannot be gainfully employed in any way, and lost tax revenue from family members who care for them full time.

Costs of law enforcement, prosecution and incarceration - nothing is as quick and effective a killer as a gun. You've got to figure that at least some of the murders would not have happened at all if the shooter hadn't been able to shoot.

Those are just the costs I can think of. Please add to the list.

I can't help but think that an awful lot of the reason that people aren't willing to support gun control is that a disproportionate number of victims are , especially young black men. And I'm an old white female, just so you know.
