it agrees with what I'd heard, which was that his plane disappeared over the English Channel. A lot of planes were shot down over the English Channel, so of course, his plane was shot down there. Or went into the Channel. Like a lot of other planes.

I hadn't heard it might not have been the war enemies who shot him down, but UK. But that doesn't make any difference as to what happened to him.

He was a true patriot. He didn't have to do all that he did during the war, but he did. And, hey, that music of his was ground breaking for the times, and it still holds up (not many people go for Big Band/Swing these days, though).
