It now basically tracks how many times an individual plays a record all added together

It would be like someone tracking every time one played a 45 after one purchased it.

As opposed to one sale of a 45, or how many times a radio station played it.

Always wished they tracked how many times I would play a song over and over.

(or like going to the beach and WABC was playing from every single person's little transistor radio on the beach, but it would only count as one play instead of hundreds of thousands of individuals.
