Davis was the first member of Congress outside Illinois to endorse Obama. This was at the time others were being pressured to endorse Clinton. He was asked by Obama to give the speech seconding his nomination at the 2008 Democratic convention. BTW he did not lose his seat. He did not run for it again because he was running for governor.
