(5,770 posts)...the school receives state funding for each student for each day he attends. The accounting takes place according to state standards. With the traditional roll call, when the student is not in "home room" in the morning, the school can't get credit. Even if he is at school, but just not in his seat. With this system, if the student is anywhere in the building he gets counted as present, so if he isn't in home room johnny on the spot the school still get credit because they can prove he was in attendance.
The school (or the district, I can't determine which) is expecting to pull in an additional two million a year. This is a pilot program at two schools to see if they can achieve that.
I'm all for using technology to improve administrative tasks and bring in more revenue for the kids.
