Lt. Leonard Robinson, 29, of Spring Lake, N.C., died Dec. 15, of non-combat related injuries while home on leave in Fayetteville, N.C. Robinson was assigned to the Naval Hospital Sigonella, Italy detachment located at the Naval Branch Health Clinic in Bahrain.
12/17/12 AFP: Taliban bomb hits US firm, mine kills 10 Afghan girls
A Taliban car bomb targeted a US company in Kabul on Monday, killing one person and wounding at least 15 shortly after a landmine killed 10 young girls in eastern Afghanistan, officials said. It was the most brazen assault targeting Westerners in the fortified Afghan capital since a suicide car bomber killed 12 people, including eight South Africans, on September 18.
12/17/12 CBS: Explosion rocks U.S. contractor's compound in Kabul
A car bomb exploded outside a compound housing a U.S. military contractor in the Afghan capital Monday, blowing apart an exterior wall, killing two and wounding at least 15 people, company representatives and police and government representatives said. In another part of the country, a suspected landmine killed 10 young girls, police said.

Sgt. 1st Class Kevin E. Lipari, 39, of Baldwin, N.Y., died Dec. 14 in Logar province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to HHC 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Bamberg, Germany. This incident is under investigation.
12/16/12 KP: Wounded Afghan spy chief admitted to US hospital
Afghan spy chief Asadullah Khalid was admitted to a US hospital for further treatment on Saturday. Deputy Afghan president spokesman Ahmad Zia Seyamak said Asadullah Khalid was taken to United States on Friday.
12/16/12 WNA: 11 militants killed in Kandaha
At least 11 government armed oppositions were killed during a one-hour counterinsurgent battle in southern province of Kandahar, provincial press office said in a statement Sunday. The operation had been launched against the insurgents when a group of 20 militants had been reported to stage a get-together in Baghak area of Khakriz district, where the government forces attacked them killing at least 11 insurgents late on yesterday, governor spokesman, Jawed Faisal said in a statement.
12/16/12 Tolonews: Four Killed in Suicide Attack on Pakistan Airport
A suicide and rocket attack targeting jet fighters and gunship helicopters at an international airport in northwestern Pakistan killed four civilians and wounded dozens more. The assault late Saturday, claimed by the Pakistani Taliban, sparked prolonged gunfire and forced authorities to close the airport, a commercial hub and Pakistan Air Force (PAF) base in Peshawar, on the edge of the tribal belt.

Turkish International Cooperation and Development Agency has fulfilled more than 800 projects in Afghanistan since 2004. TIKA officials told Anadoly Agency that the agency had been undertaking projects in order to develop education, health, capacity improvement and economic infrastructure in Afghanistan.
12/16/12 Tolonews: Kunar Security Improves After Transition
Following the transition of security responsibility from Isaf to Afghan forces, security in most parts of the eastern province of Kunar has improved, the provincial governor said Sunday. "Some parts of Kunar province have seen better security conditions. For instance, Pich Valley, which the Americans considered the valley of death, was one of the most insecure parts of the province. But now we call it the valley of life; security in the valley has improved," said Sayed Fazlullah Wahedi, Kunar governor.

Sgt. Michael J. Guillory, 28, of Pearl River, La., died Dec. 14 while conducting combat operations in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He was assigned to 1st Marine Special Operations Battalion, Camp Pendleton, Calif.
12/16/12 DoD: Army Casualty Identified
Staff Sgt. Nelson D. Trent, 37, of Austin, Texas, died Dec. 13 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 56th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 36th Infantry Division, Fort Worth, Texas.

Staff Sgt. Nicholas J. Reid, 26, of Rochester, N.Y., died Dec. 13 in Landstuhl, Germany from wounds suffered on Dec. 9, in Sperwan Village, Afghanistan, when enemy forces attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 53rd Ordnance Company (EOD), 3rd Ordnance Battalion (EOD), Joint Base Lewis-McChord, Wash.
