4. There is no "legal authority"

All they apparently did was "repurpose" the crap email that Muskrat had sent out to Twitter employees after he bought it and then eventually proceeded to lay off most of the staff.

The current BA funds for FTEs are most likely already obligated so this type of thing is idiotic. If they want to do RIFs, that needs to be in the final FY2025 budget/appropriations which they STILL haven't done yet because they preferred to spend time stalking the Biden family.

The email to fired employees:

Hello,

As shared earlier today, Twitter is conducting a workforce reduction to help improve the health of the company.

These decisions are never easy and it is with regret that we write to inform you that your role at Twitter has been impacted.

Today is your last working day at the company, however, you will remain employed by Twitter and will receive compensation and benefits through your separation date of February 2, 2023.

During this time, you will be on a Non-Working Notice period and your access to Twitter systems will be deactivated. While you are not expected to work during the Non-Working Notice period, you are still required to comply with all company policies, including the Employee Playbook and Code of Conduct.

Within a week, you will receive details of your severance offer, financial resources extending beyond your Non-Working Notice period.

At that time you will also receive a Separation Agreement and Release of Claims and other offboarding…

Elon Musk says he’s cut about 80% of Twitter’s staff

By Michelle Toh and Juliana Liu, CNN
Updated 10:22 AM EDT, Wed April 12, 2023

Hong Kong CNN — Elon Musk has laid off more than 6,000 people at Twitter since taking over the company, he told the BBC in a rare interview late Tuesday. Musk was quoted as saying in the interview that the social media platform now has only 1,500 employees, down from under 8,000 who were employed at the time of his acquisition. The reduction equates to roughly 80% of the company’s staff.

It’s “not fun at all” and can sometimes be “painful,” the billionaire CEO told the British broadcaster at Twitter’s head office in San Francisco.

The world’s second richest man said that “drastic action” was needed when he came on board, because the company was facing “a $3 billion negative cash flow situation.” That left Twitter (TWTR) with only “four months to live,” he estimated. “This is not a caring [or] uncaring situation. It’s like, if the whole ship sinks, then nobody’s got a job,” Musk said.

Musk purchased Twitter for $44 billion last October.
