It is better to have someone voting with the Dems 20% of the time than a Republican voting zero.
Even if the Dem voted zero, committee assignments are based on the majority party.

District 2 in Oklahoma is the only Democratic seat in Oklahoma. It's the seat of Carl Albert and Mike Synar.
Neither could be elected now. The only reason a Democrat even has a chance is by tradition.
Even a "moderate" Democrat would be crushed in a landslide.
