27. I can foresee the Democrats eventually splitting into two parties

People here occasionally speculate about forming a third party and whether it could work.

But I'm starting to think that what might really happen is that the GOP dwindles to an increasingly sour rump but at the same time the Democrats become too big a tent to hold together and split into two new parties -- both of them sane but one more conservative in the old, solid sense and the other more adventurous and progressive.

It's perhaps the best path I can imagine to get us out of our current dysfunctionality.
