(5,732 posts)I used to work with people who suffered from bi-polar disorder (formerly known as manic-depression.) It is very common for people who suffer from this disorder to go on crazy spending sprees, or spend lots of money that they don't have, while in the manic phase of their illness. I had one guy who was a stable family man and went to prison for writing bad checks while on bizarre shopping sprees. Buying stuff that he gave to others, often strangers.
It is also a very hard to properly medicate. Lithium works for many, but the side effects make it difficult for many to take, and the dosage needs to me monitored closely because the sufferer's brain chemistry can change drastically. The other really sad side effect is that once a person becomes stable, they decide that they don't need to continue taking their meds. Then they relapse, and the whole process starts over.
Maybe he is just another crooked politician, maybe not. But I don't see the need for you to behave like a republican about it. That is a mental illness also, ya know.
