(3 posts)As alp227 alludes to, I think that many liberals consider AM radio to be a vestigial remnant (or not thought of at all), whereas many conservatives never left AM radio, and then gladly stuck with it after the loss of the Fairness Doctrine. The canard of the "liberal media has everything else" is now etched permanently into the minds of the right wing AM radio listener. The other myth pushed relentlessly by the right wing--that NPR "is what YOU people have," is just that--a myth. If NPR really is "liberal," then we wouldn't hear anything from the Heritage Foundation, the Cato Institute, or hear the likes of David Brooks at any time, much less on a regular basis. All the same, many liberals probably feel that NPR is better than the only other alternative they ever think exists, which is a lot of static-prone reception as a background for angry old white men speaking nonsense.
